Establish the employer and governing framework
Keep the employer’s correct legal name, licence details, work location, and permit information. Many private-sector employment matters fall within the federal labour framework and Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation processes. DIFC has its own employment law, while government employment and domestic work involve other frameworks. Do not assume all free-zone employment has identical rules or that the office address alone resolves coverage.
Compare the offer with the operative documents
Gather the offer, signed employment contract, amendments, and relevant policies. Identify the agreed role, pay components, working arrangement, and any probation or notice provisions. Preserve a record of later changes and how they were communicated. If different documents conflict, flag the inconsistency to an adviser rather than selecting whichever version seems more favourable without checking its legal effect.

Make pay and leave records easy to follow
Organise salary statements, bank credits, attendance information, leave records, and correspondence about unpaid amounts. Distinguish basic pay from allowances and other components because the distinction may matter to a calculation. Show your method and label estimates honestly. Avoid using a generic online calculator as the final answer when the applicable regime, service period, or relevant benefit arrangements have not been confirmed.
Keep the end-of-employment sequence clear
Preserve resignation or termination communications, notice arrangements, handover records, and proposed settlement documents. Record the final working day separately from administrative cancellation dates. Read any acknowledgement of payment carefully before signing it, and raise discrepancies with accurate records. Ask how the employment issue relates to permits or residence arrangements; one administrative step should not be assumed to settle every contractual claim.
Use the route that matches the case
MoHRE publishes labour-complaint guidance for matters within its remit. Other arrangements may require a different authority or forum. Confirm the current process, documents, and applicable time limits promptly, especially if employment has ended. Keep the complaint reference and each response. Settlement discussions, an internal grievance, and a formal claim are different steps, so ask which action is needed to protect your position.
